About the Conference

The workshop is for TK-5 educators to explore integrating literacy into science using picture books. Each attending teacher will receive classroom-tested lessons, a grade-level picture book, and opportunities for shared learning to implement the STEAM lessons in their classroom.

The day will include a keynote address from Dr. Young-Suk Kim, a leader in the science of reading at the UCI School of Education. Additional highlights include a talk from UCI Alumni and author of R is for Rice, Nithin Jilla, and hands-on art workshops facilitated by the California Arts Project.

This day-long learning event will be followed by two virtual meetings in the Fall of 2025, allowing teachers to share their students’ learning progress and refine their STEAM and literacy knowledge.
